Mozilla Everything2 Search Plugin (thing)

Mozilla has a nifty feature to add searching abilities to the sidebar/location bar. This will, at least in windows, but it "should" work in all OS's supported by Mozilla, give you an "E2" search. I don't know yet how to get it to keep the results in the sidebar, but such is life, i never use the sidebar. I would also like to patch Findings... to add in some easy start/stop tags.

I need a 16x16 GIF for the search results etc that show up in the taskbar. Something just like the favicon.ico thing, only in gif format. It would also be nice to be able to implement the update features, although i'm not quite sure how they work, maybe a fullpage node or a regular file (gasp!) If we made it a fullpage superdoc (does such a beast exist?) it could be made modular to any ecore site. I'll talk to nate or jay about it...

Cacheing seems the way to go.

As far as cache invalidation, i don't know how this is all going to work, but is there a way to make it like a FIFO Stack, such that when a user creates a writeup, we could hit the DB to POP (shift?) the stack, and PUSH the new writeup onto it? This could save us a few nanoseconds in regeneration, however if we have forgotten a place where the cache could go out of sync, it could further the problem.

jb sez: A cache set up like a FIFO stack is really what I was planning. It's fairly trivial to just tack on the the beginnging the id of a new writeup. Deletion is more of a bitch, but I can deal with that. It'll be a quick string replace on the cache. At any rate, that's probably how it's going to be done. It'll be a perl-based solution, as I can't see anyway to cache them directly in SQL.

Deletion seems like a good time to set the invalid bit.

Asthma and Swimming are two of the oddest things to hear put together to a non-asthmatic. Why would you want to do something which is so focused on being able to breathe, when you can't breathe to well to begin with?

Swimming is the best exercise for asthmatics. This is because the air above the water is fresh, and slightly above average humidity. The deep breathing require to swim helps get the moist air into your lungs, where it can do good things. The swimming is also great exercise on the ole breathing bags, I imagine because it forces the lungs open for an extended period of time. This may cause the mucus and phlegm in there to lose it's grip on the walls it is trying to hold together, and strengthen your diaphram muscle.

Odd trivia: never challenge an asthmatic to see who can hold their breath under water longer. The asthmatic will win and you will look very silly ;-) Remember, we are used to going days, weeks, lifetimes, on a shortened supply of oxygen. A…

October 3, 2001 (idea)

Well life sucks. (Sorta) Got a speeding ticket a few weeks ago now, and now have been canned from my job at Subway. Nothing personal, just not enough revenue stream to keep me with enough hours to justify the paperwork. I got 3 hours last week.

19th birthday came and went, uneventful, girlfriend and i went on a date, dinner sucked but the movie/after was nice. Next night my mom decided to be a bitch while dishing up cake at official family celebration w/ cousin who just turned 21. "You're going to have fun right now god damnit" Oh well. Got some much needed cash. Got a very cool/nice looking flower thingy from girlfriend. It's a vase she filled with blue glass rocks, and then tookk these paper flowers and put them together in the top. Looks purty =)

But then we are both under a _lot_ of stress right now. I'm massivly in debt to her (money wise), and now w/o a job, and a speeding ticket looming, it's hard to get her any money, and she needs to cut back on her hours to keep up with her…

Ok. Well it's still yesterday according to real time, but it's been tomorrow now for a few hours server time. Oh well, at least it's not eastern (US) time. Silly easterners.

And considering today is my birthday i should probably add a node here. So far not a lot planned, but this year i'll probably have a party since i didn't have anything much last year in the way of a gathering of people. Time will tell. Tomorrow my girlfriend and i will be going on our second "date" in almost 2.5 years of "going out" together =) It promises to be fun, the standard dinner and a movie, but this time, i can drive! :) Going to go see Serendipity. She has no idea where we should go for dinner, but since this is like a b-day present, i have made it her prime task in this to pick where we eat, and now to make it surprise, which completely lifts me of any responsibility..hehehe...
