Opening a can of beans
I sliced my knuckle on the lid.
My mind was on your warm embrace
but it should've been on my hand.
When I was out biking after work
I hit that big pothole on State.
My eyes were filled with your smile
when I kissed the ground with mine.
These bruises on my legs and back
from when I tripped in the stairwell?
I heard you whispering in my ear
and tried to hold you closer.
The shaving accidents were the worst,
given my proclivity to bleed.
You're in luck, though — I gave up
and decided to grow a beard.
