manifest destiny, westward expansion
west, here we are
but what did we leave in our wake
natives lie bleeding
soaking into earth
roots pull it all up into oak
sycamore leaves glitter in rays
the sun, everyday
westward arc calling to us
"to be alive is to experience the unknown--"
we never hesitated
west, here we are
bags still packed from the conquest
left with feelings of what now
what more could we possibly take?
coast to coast all we have came at a cost
but alive in the west manifest
smirking sun dipping low
on a beach, the last 100 yards of western civilization
children of golden fortune
