"Crunch all you want, we'll make more" was the tagline of a moderately-successful ad campaign for Doritos-brand chips. The ads aired during the mid-1990s, and featured comedian Jay Leno. The tagline now normally recurs in one of two contexts:

  1. As an ironic commentary on American greed and consumerism (which is it was in the first place, given the right viewpoint.)
  2. As a derogatory reference to something that is carelessly treated, and possibly exists in large quantities - the Chinese army's treatment of its soldiers and NASA's Mars probe program are two examples I've seen.

I'd really like to know what it is about this node that seems to annoy people - if someone could drop me a note explaining it, I'd be most appreciative.
