A long board is a type of surf board which can be anywhere over 6 feet in length. They are considered easier to ride than short boards, as they are easier to balance on, so most beginners use these. These are probably more similar to the original surf boards in Hawaii, which were long slabs of wood that only the strongest men could handle. Also, even though most long boards are made from fibreglass and styrofoam, some are still made from wood, unlike any short board.
