A cultural climate featuring the normalization of constant surveillance by agencies public and/or private.

A surveillance culture can be easily identified by the acceptance of ubiquitous surveillance cameras in public places. This acceptance is often coincident with statements such as "it should only bother you if you have something to hide" or "it makes me feel safer" or "I support anything that enforces civility" or "only criminals object to being watched at all times by the police".

Surveillance culture is popularized and strengthened by the preponderance of "reality" television programs like "Busted On the Job, Part XXVIII", "Survivor", "Temptation Island" and the like.
