Turtle soup is a traditional Cajun dish. To be honest I'm not sure where you purchase turtles, but if you go canoeing you can find hundreds on logs in the river. You can also catch them just like you'd catch a fish--string a line with chunks of meat on bulky hooks near the banks of the river. I'll discuss how to remove the shell and all.

Ingredients

a yellowbellied adult cooter

1/3 lb butter

salt and pepper to taste

1 cup minced onion

2 Tbsp oregano

1 tsp mace

hot sauce to taste

1 Tbsp fresh thyme

1/2 cup heavy cream

1/3 cup sherry

1/3 cup brandy

First you need to get the shell of the turtle and get it soft enough to chop. Be humane and kill it first. Then boil the turtle for about a half hour. Take it out and you should easily be able to pry off the shell. Remove the organs and chop the meat into bite-sized pieces.…

This is a tasty Cajun dish that's worth trying if you spot an opossum.

Ingredients

an opposum

a cup of chopped chestnuts

a cup of chopped apple

a cup of bread crumbs

a sweet potato

a half cup of lemon juice

1/3 cup of brown sugar (how come ya taste so good?)

1/4 cup of melted butter

a cup of boiling water

Boil the skinned and cleaned opossum for about 8 minutes, or until the texture is as you like it. Drain, and rub with salt and pepper. Stuff the opossum with the chestnuts, apple, and breadcrumbs. Slice the sweet potato on top and pour the other ingredients over the top. Bake for about 2 hours, covered, at 375 °F.

In my opinion the Westvleteren 12 is one of the five or so best beers in existence. It is also the highest-rated beer on ratebeer.com. There are some interesting stories about the distribution of Westvleteren. While it's true that only individuals can get the beer at the abbey, bottles manage to circulate around the world. A local store says that only about fifty stores in the world carry Westvleteren. The beer-drinking world is indebted to teams of people who go to the abbey individually and bring back the beer for labeling and distribution. The monks don't have a price for their beer. Instead an individual gives a donation to the abbey and the monks give what they feel is appropriate. Considering the fact that bottles of Westvleteren cost, in general, less than $10, they are clearly a steal!

When I visited Brussels the only beer I couldn't find was Westvleteren, and the citizens there clearly consider it in the highest regard. I happened to find a bottle of…

When I have some leftover octopus in the fridge and I'm worried about it going bad, I often make this hearty stew and serve it with some fresh bread coated with olive oil.

Ingredients to serve appx 4

a pound of octopus

2 tbsp butter

2 cloves minced garlic

2 cups fish stock

a pound of fennel

fresh mint to taste

How you make it

Fry the garlic in the butter until it's slightly brown. Add the fish stock and simmer. Stir 1-inch strips (skinned obviously) of the octopus into the stock. If you prefer your octopus more tender you can beat it a bit before cooking. Cut the fennel into 1-inch strips and put it in the stock. Add the mint leaves and simmer for about an hour. Delicious!

Space Rogue was, at the time of its release (1989), a revolutionary game. In terms of my enjoyment I'd rank the game in my top 5 of all time. It was created by Paul Neurath of Origin for many platforms, including MS-DOS. You can download it online.

Space Rogue is a role-playing game with some action elements, such as exciting spaceship battles. Basically you're some guy with no particular mission. You can play the game however you wish. You could be a trader, a bounty hunter, a pirate, or take part in a mission to save your world from the evil Manchi. You could buy new equipment for your spaceship and take part in exciting quests. One of the more exciting ways to play the game is as a pirate. You can engage in exciting battles with ships that are stronger than you, and you have the choice of destroying them or demanding their equipment. If you're a pirate then bounty hunters will be after your ass and you'll always be running, so watch out!

Doubleback was an excellent video game (or so I thought when i was 4) for Tandy machines, released in 1982. The idea was simple. You continually draw this curve on the screen with a joystick. Items like cherries, skates, apples, and horseshoes worth different points appear on the screen. If your line runs into an object you lose a life. Every time you encircle those objects you get their points. And the thing that makes it fun is that if you encircle more than one object (say you encircle n objects), you get n times the point value for every encircled object. Thus for a high score it's really advantageous to wait and let objects build up on the screen. But then it's harder to move around without running into an object! You could also write your name or curse words on the screen, which was cool when i was a little kid.
