Olivia Smith*'s aunt was the first parent/guardian I talked to on the phone prior to Junior Day Camp's beginning, and from the beginning I knew that Olivia Smith would break my heart.

And now she's done it.

Her aunt told me that Olivia would have trouble adjusting to camp life; that her background was harsher than the other kids; that, despite being a very smart girl, she had not the opportunity to learn very basic things.

The first day of camp, Olivia sat away from the other children, preferring to isolate herself. She ate her fruit cocktail with her fingers and emptied her bowels in her pants. None of this seemed to bother her, she just strayed farther away.

One of the other girls smelled something rank and had no qualms about saying so. I asked Olivia if she needed to go to the bathroom, and she said no.

I told her that I needed to go to the bathroom, and asked if she would go with me. She reluctantly followed. It was then…

Quite a few (they have yet to release a list) of my high school classmates are no longer alive.

Last night there was a party in Lincoln Park, Chicago. There were just too many people on the porch at the time, and with the weight it collapsed, falling several floors.

In total 12 people died (i believe... need to check the stats) and many many more were injured.

Among the dead was Sam Farmer, who was a bit of a fratty jackass, but nonetheless pleasant to me and in several classes. Although our relationship was nothing more than copying each others homework and occasionally getting high, it is really a shock.

May they rest in peace.

I got the best news I have recieved in a long, long time today. My good friend Lorraine, who has been bulimic for seven years, just got out of inpatient treatment at the Renfrew Center in Philidelphia and is doing very well.

The IM from her was totally unexpected, but so very welcomed. I suddenly went from being tired and lethargic to manic and happy and fast moving/typinc. So I asked her a bunch of questions about her stay, and I'm happy to say that it was a good one and she learned a lot about herself and has everything under control.

God, I am SO relieved! I had these nightmares about my friend stuck in a white/seafoamgreen sterile hospital looking room with people monitoring her all day, and evil creepy people wandering in all the time. I imagined her without any privacy, having someone escorting her to the bathroom at all times and big fat nurses named Helga forcefeeding them baby food.

Lorraine, I am so glad you are doing well. This was the best thing I could possibly hear.

Wilmette dates back to 1674 when Father Marquette beached his canoes and settled on its shore. It was named after Antoine Ouilmette, a French-Canadian fur trader who was granted 2 miles of lakefront property by the Treaty of Prairie du Chien.

After the Chicago Fire, many people fled to the suburbs and Wilmette was incorporated in 1872.

The western half of the city, then called Gross Point was incorporated by German farmers. This was annexed by Wilmette in 1926.

Wilmette Now

I just found out that a week ago a wonderful girl from my Creative Writing class died. She was intelligent, nice and extremely athletic, one of the star volleyball players at Purdue.

I have a sneaky suspicion it was a suicide.

i have no confirmation of this, but the obituary said nothing regarding the cause of death and donations in her memory are supposed to be sent to the National Alliance of the Mentally Ill.

I don't want to assume anything, but if it is a case of suicide it is yet another case (other recent case being my good friend suffering from bulimia) of people that I thought had it together so well, and made little effort to help. As a psychology major, I am feeling guilty about this, but as a bipolar sufferer, it provides a bizarre sense of relief. Not that I am glad by ANY means she died, because I think it is a horrible thing and it is awful to have lost such a beautiful and talented girl, but it is nice to know that I do not suffer alone.

Insects have been around 310 Million years, and they outnumber all living things, making up 57% of organisms, and 80% of animals. So it is only natural that we would write songs about them, make references to them in our poetry, films and artwork. I have made a list of all the music that I have ever heard of with insects mentioned. This list will never be finished, so feel free to /msg me about additions.
