| A team of super-heroes published by Marvel Comics.
The original team was brought together by the mechinations of
Loki, the Norse god of mischief and half brother of Thor.
Loki sought to bring the god of thunder into conflict with the
gamma-spawned Hulk, but inadvertently contacted Iron Man, Ant-Man, and
the Wasp. The four heroes converged and discovered that the
Hulk had been set-up by Loki. Defeating the god of mischief, the group
decided to form a group to defend against threats that were too big
for any single member to handle. So were the Avengers born.
