Radio telecommunications; Bit Error Rate (or BER) is the percentage of bits that are expected or calculated to be in error. BER is affected by things like symbol rate, constellation size, communications bandwidth, hardware/voltage glitches, DSP speed, etc. Anything that adds complexity has a negative effect on BER.
