Home of President Harry S Truman, birth place of actors Ginger Rogers and Arliss Howard, and TV Producer Paul Henning. Independence is home to the Truman Library and Truman Home. Home of the "Jumping Off Point" for people on their way west, Independence was the beginning of the California Trail, Oregon Trail, and Santa Fe Trail. Jesse James and his brother Frank James were held in it's jail.
