Fearless (review)
Taylor Swift!
2009!
Listen to it now!
Well, no. This album is classed as "western" or "country" or "pop" depending on who you are listening to. So if you don't like those, or a mix of those, this probably isn't for you. I would say, if it is western or country, it is a terrible example of the genre. But that is just me.
Fearless is such a girl's album. It is about princes and princesses and castles and love. So if you are a guy you may not like it. If you are not into slow love-filled music you may not like it. Somehow her music makes you feel as though you are in love. This will leave you slightly confused as to who exactly you are in love with. That doesn't matter though. Feeling as though you are in love is great!
Track One: Fearless
Not the best on the album. I am not sure why it leads off with this song, I suppose it is good in it's own right but it doesn't exactly make you want to keep on listening to it. It is boring. Not exciting enough to make you want to go on with it. And it is the title of the album, so you expect it to be good, right? Never mind. Listen. It is not terrible. Just not that great.
Track Two: Fifteen
Damn I love this song. Maybe it is mostly because I was only recently fifteen, or because the experiences in this song were never mine, but for some reason I cannot get over this song. It starts off slow, with her the guitar barely audible behind her voice. Then the chorus starts and it is easy to sing along with. You can bob your head but it doesn't take over the moment. A good song.
Track Three: Hey Stephen
It starts with some humming and drums and guitar, and then she sings Yeahh I don't like songs that start with Yeahh but other than that I like this song. Her sound is different to normal mainstream music, it is calm and you can both tap your feet and fall asleep to it. It is classed as western but I would call it folk, not that I am much for classifying music. This song is sweet and lovely, the love story between Taylor and Stephen.
Track Four: White Horse
This was one of the "radio hits" from this album, but the first time I heard it I didn't know why it was so great. It is slow and I don't much like songs of this slowness. But everything about it suits. A story about a girl who got hurt by a boy. Following the traditions of the album she sings about princesses and princes and the white horse the prince is meant to ride in and rescue the princess on. But in this, the prince didn't follow the story and he hurt the princess, and now the princess is saying that it is too late. I like this. It isn't a pathetic song about a pathetic girl.
Track Five: You Belong With Me
Oo, an upbeat song! And it is sweet! And catchy! She wears short skirts I wear t-shirts I like the video clip for this as well, and I didn't even notice if the boy is cute, though I didn't like that he only notices her once she has taken off her glasses and put on a dress. I hate it when the change is based on something physical. It is one of those songs about loving your best friend who is with someone else. I don't like that this song makes it seem as though she is demanding he leave the other girl to be with her, but then you listen to it and realize it is more like the cheer captain doesn't really understand him, which makes it okay, I guess.
Track Six: Breathe
I don't like this song. I think it is about a breakup, or a fight. By now, you know what is typical of Miss Swift and this one won't surprise you.
Track Seven: Tell Me Why
This might be the only song that is verging on this "western/country" style that Taylor apparently fills. It sounds different, it is more upbeat and although it is most definitly Taylor it is not the same as the other songs. It is a good song.
Track Eight: You're Not Sorry
Sad, slow, starts with a few chords on the piano. It is difficult to say exactly what you love about a song even if you know the other person has heard the song in question. This song is one of the reasons I quite like this album. It is about love, but she is not being weak and begging him to come back, nor is she getting angry at the boy. She is just saying she is sick of it, and she wants out.
Track Nine: The Way I Loved You
So this time she is with one boy but missing the old one. The one she is with is perfect in every way but the old one she fought with all the time.. I think it is a contrast between boring but better (current boy) and exciting but worse (past). This is undoubtably my favorite song on the entire album. Just when the music ends I will restart the track so I can hear it again instantly.
Track Ten: Forever and Always
Another sad ending to another love story, this one is about confusion. "What happened, why is it like this, you said you would love me forever and always" This song gets into your head in a good way.
Track Eleven: The Best Day
At first I didn't like this song but then I listened to it again and again and now I really like it. There are not many stories about a girl and her father, but this is one of them. It is marvelous. Fathers are there to protect their daughters, for a while the girl is the princess and the father is the king and I think that would be the best part about being a father to a girl. You get to be the king of everything for a little while to one person.
Track Twelve: Change
Urgh. Terrible start to the last song of the album, and the rest is unamazing. The word "hallelujah" should only be allowed to be sung by Jeff Buckley. I wish it stopped at The Best Day.
Taylor's voice is lovely to listen to and her music is calming so it can be in the background or the foreground of whatever you are doing. The style is varied enough that you will not get bored with it. A recommended album.
