In
Welsh the island is called Ynys Môn. In
ancient times it was the seat of power and the most
holy area of
Druidism. When the
Roman conquest of Britain got seriously under way in the years 60-100 AD, the Romans found themselves unable to accept the
Druids'
human sacrifices and vowed to wipe out the religion. This they achieved by invading the Isle of Anglesey and
slaughtering almost every human being they found there.
