An
affectionate slang term used in
Australia for
Ford motor vehicles, and also for the Ford company itself.
A car seen driving along the road might be called "a
Blue Oval", while someone talking about Ford might refer to the brand as "the Blue
Oval".
Obviously, the name comes from the Ford
logo which is a blue oval approximatelly two-and-three-quarter times as wide as it is
high with 'Ford' written on it in rather nice
cursive font. Strangely enough, there seems no similiar slang term for
Holdens (Lion holding a ball/driver's helmet?), even though they probably outweigh Ford
cars in terms of being Australian.
