A nice 1997 novel by Charles Frazier. Set during the end of the American Civil War, a wounded confederate veteren named Inman deserts, and starts on the long, dangerous journey home. Meanwhile, his beloved Ada must somehow find a way to save her dead father's farm. Supposedly, based on a true story, it won the National Book Award. Part action and part love story, Inman is basically portrayed as romantic hero, giving the book a definite Odyssey-esque feel.
