Orson Welles'
Mercury Theatre Company, and part of the original cast of
Cole Porter's
Can Can on
Broadway.
On the radio he was a regular on My Friend Irma and made appearances on The Edgar Bergen - Charlie McCarthy Show. In the movieThe 5000 Fingers of Dr. T, he was Dr. Terwilliker (Dr. T). He was a regular on The Tonight Show from 1959 and 1962, and made appearances on dozens of television shows from I Love Lucy to Laverne and Shirley.
Cartoon fans will recognize his voice as Snidely Whiplash in Dudley Do-Right (from the Bullwinkle Show), Professor Waldo Wigglesworth in The Adventures of Hoppity Hooper, Captain Hook in Disney's Peter Pan, the narrator for the 1970 TV version of Horton Hears a Who, and Thorin in the 1978 Rankin/Bass production of The Hobbit.
