Hattersley is an 1960s
overspill housing estate in Hyde, Greater Manchester.
It gained fame for being the home of one of Britain's worst
child killers;
Myra Hindley
Upon completion, it was likened to a Manhattan skyline, but merely served as
a series of tower block prisons for its residents. Now in the process of a major
regeneration project, attempting to retrain the out-of-workers, rebuild the less
salubrious sections and encourage the 40% of adults who are illiterate to indulge in
some Lifelong Learning.
Hyde itself gained infamy when the town's doctor was found to be bumping off many
of his patients. As yet he is convicted of fifteen murders and whilst serving life
is being investigated for a further 150. He is Britain's worst serial killer to date.
