A message-based, threading microkernel developed at Carnegie Mellon University.
Mach hosts various ``OS emulators'', providing the most basic operating system
functions underneath the emulators. Many Mach variants have been used in such operating systems as NeXTStep, MkLinux, Rhapsody, Hurd, and now MacOS X.

Short form for Machabees, a group of four texts originally written in Hebrew (or Aramaic).

The Catholic Church considers the first two canonical and the last two apocryphal. Protestants believe all four are apocryphal. See The Books of Machabees for a summary and Machabees for the actual books.
