Teflon
Roy Plunkett (Jun 26 1910 - May 12 1994)
This Ohio resident was born in New Carlisle. His schooling included Manchester College and
Ohio State University completing his education with a
PHD in Chemistry.
During his employment with
DuPont he and assistant Jack Rebok
accidentally
discovered the
chemical PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene). One year later he was placed in charge of the
tetraethyl lead production.
Plunkett stayed with DuPont until he
retired in 1975. In 1985 he was inducted into the
Inventors' Hall of Fame
