A running idea of mine, take one strand each of red green and blue Christmas lights and braid them together. Then wire each strand to an 8-bit digital -> analog converter, control the DACs by computer, via the serial port. Write a kernel module to control the whole thing (/dev/sex_lights sounds cool). An XMMS plugin to make the lights change in time to my MP3s would be fun too.
