A movie set in a specific non-contemporaneous time frame; usually the connotation is to films set in the past.

Examples: any number of the zillion Westerns largely made during the first half of this century; most cinematic interpretations of Shakespeare; nearly any film-noir made after the 1940's (and yet somehow still stuck in Sam Spade's offices)
