Someone who is officially Indian (as in Native Americans) according to the laws and constitution of Canada - a registered member of one of the First Nations. And you thought an injun was an injun. According to the Indian Act, and similar Québec-oriented legislation, an "Indian" falls into one of three categories: 1) Status Indian, 2) Inuit, or 3) non-Status Indian (e.g. Métis or Natives who don't live within First Nations boundaries).
