The human skeleton has 7 cervical vertebrae, 12 thoracic vertebrae, 5 lumbar vertebrae and fused sacral vertebrae (and a small coccyx).

The top two cervical vertebrae are named the axis and the atlas.

The vertebrae are attachments of the Muscles of the Back.

The singular is "vertebra".
