1. Carrying a drum key, whether in a pocket or on a keychain.
2. Spontaneously playing rythms on any available surface, such as their legs, chest, car seats, walls, floors, ceilings (if they can reach), pots and pans, glasses, tables, or anything that makes a satisfying noise when struck. This is sometimes called hacking.
3. Testing all surfaces for possible use in hacking when actual percussion instruments are not available.
4. Spontaneous use of drumspeak, such as "herrta herta spigida-bigida urr-at chuku- blik-u iga diga dut-dut-chup oosh."
