Description:
Located just sorth of Atlantic City and off the coast of Delaware Bay near where the bay meets the Atlantic Ocean, Bridgeborough New Jersey is a metropolis of trade, shipping, textiles, transport, legally-sanctioned vigilantism, sports and recreation, anchorage, and is a wondrous source for delicious marine life eateries. Bridgeborough is the third largest city in New Jersey, and among the top twenty largest cities in the United States.
With the assistance of ferries, over thirty major bridges and thoroughfares, nearby Cumberland County Airport, and highways 47 and 109, Bridgeborough is less than a couple hours away from many other popular cities including Atlantic City, Baltimore Maryland, and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (barring traffic and weather conditions). Bridgeborough offers visitors a unique combination of attractions, accommodations, dining, nightlife, sightseeing, occasional glimpses of costumed mutants and masked crusaders of justice combating evil, shopping and hospitality not found anywhere else.
Some notable areas of interest include the Central Business District or CBD where the conservative businessmen and women of Bridgeborough keep their hand on the pulse of progress. To the northwest is the predominant residential district Cohansey affectionately known as a
bedroom community. Longbeach includes a skyline rivaling that of Manhattan, with hotels and casinos and comforting beaches during the summer months. Bridgeborough is also home to the remains of Jumping Jack Limited's North American Headquarters, destroyed in the early 1990s under mysterious circumstances. Off the coast of Longbeach can be seen Beholden Island, once home to the vigilante team The Belonging, but this property is still off-limits to tourists, due to alleged environmental damage and radiation poisoning. The Winston Brooks Memorial Wildlife Reserve is located inland just on the outskirts of this coastal city, and is a wonderful place to spend the day communing with nature or just experiencing it from a distance inside the safety of your car.
Is this place real?
No. There was never any intent to pass these entries off as "real." However, it's recently come to my attention that people are mistaking these entries as real. I'm beginning to feel like Orson Welles after his radio broadcast of H. G. Wells' "War of the Worlds". How ironic that the fictional telling of that story began in Grovers Mill, New Jersey. I shall henceforth refer to myself in the third person for the duration of this node, for no reason other than it appears to read better.
The nodes of Bridgeborough, New Jersey are based loosely on stories told by Zach Garland in the late 80s & early 90s to friends over a campaign of superhero oriented role playing games. DC Heroes was the game system of choice among his brood. There was an attempt at one time to find another medium through which to tell these games for fun and profit. Zach abandoned that idea in the late 1990s when he realized it was never gonna pay the bills. When exploring Everything2.org, Zach marvelled at the potential for its use in terms of hypertext fiction. He theorized one could tell fictional tales in a dynamic format as opposed to the linear format that is traditionally used, and decided to utilize his mental and physical notations regarding the fictional city of Bridgeborough, New Jersey to see whether or not his hypothesis of marrying E2 with dynamic hypertext fiction was plausible. The jury is still out regarding his success. The location where Bridgeborough, New Jersey is described to exist is nothing but swampland in reality. The concept of the city is in the tradition of other fictional cities in the DC Universe and is meant as a tribute to those efforts by countless writers. Fictional cities like Metropolis, Gotham City, Keystone City, and Star city are given approximate geographic locations to simulate reality, and allow for the suspension of disbelief among readers. Bridgeborough is in keeping with this tradition.
Bridgeborough is the fictional home of many costumed crusaders and vigilantes born from the deranged mind of Zach, and are here now for your perusal, for better or for worse. An attempt at an exhaustive and complete list of all Bridgeborough, New Jersey tainted nodes is provided below. The intent is to entertain and to experiment with the breadth and depth of potential which the Everything2 code provides. There is no intent to mislead people to believe these locations and people are real. No similarity to actual persons, places or things, living, dead or undead, is intended nor should it be inferred.
