Circuitous

Certain things are elliptical
they are defined by their path, the way they move toward something
and then move away 


you might say it is a cycle,  this movement 
if it is an object
or a habit, if it is a person


I have no idea why people repeat themselves 
but I know this is true
just from watching them- both family and strangers  


I watch how people move around in public 
the things they do, the words they use
even though I have no idea why they act the way they do 


if they asked me about myself,
why I behave the way I do 
I couldn't even make something up
