Very consistently successful Japanese singer. Born
Yumi Arai on January 19th 1954, she graduated from the Tama University of the Arts in
Tokyo and had her debut as a singer in 1973. In 1976 she married
Masataka Matsutoya who had produced and arranged many of her albums.
Yuming, as she is nicknamed by her fans, continues to make popular songs (she also writes and composes them) until today.
Her probably most well-known songs are Rouge no Dengon
and Yasashisa ni tsutsumareta nara, two of her early big hits which were used as opening and ending themes for the studio Ghibli anime Kiki's Delivery Service in 1989.
