Bozon is also right here, that's the Jungian sense of the word.

Animus n. (from Latin: spirit, mind, courage, anger)

  1. basic overall attitude or governing spirit, temperament
  2. a usually prejudiced and often spiteful or malevolent ill will (like animosity)
