A word of many meanings. Among them are:

One of those interesting swearwords, in that 'fucking' or straight sex is regarded as far less sinful than 'sodomy' or anal sex, but the relative levels of offense of the words is the opposite, with 'fuck' still being quite strong but 'sod' barely counting as a swearword.

Like "fuck", can also be used as a pejorative verb, e.g. "Sod it" or "Sod you".

That stratum of the surface of the soil which is filled with the roots of grass, or any portion of that surface; turf; sward.
