Elided form of "How's that?", this is the
canonical form - when shouted by any member of the fielding side - of an
appeal for a
batsman's
dismissal in
cricket (all forms of dismissal apart from being
clean bowled must be appealed for verbally before the umpire will make a decision, unless the batsman
walks (gives him/herself out) of his own accord. The main alternative form is a slurred and shouted version of "How was he/she?"
Also a very simple cricket simulation game (in the very broadest sense) using a small brass die (actually a rolled hexagonal or possibly octagonal prism), popular in boy's school playgrounds in the jumpers for goalposts era.
