Dream Warrior Wingman (Yume Senshi Wingman in Japanese) is a Anime series based on Masakazu Katsura's first manga: Wingman.
The 46 episodes, produced by Toei Animation and directed by Tomoharu Katsumata ran a full year on Japanese TV, from February 1984 until February 1985. The series has recently been re-released on DVD in Japan. The boxed set containing all episodes is not subtitled however, making the series hard to understand for those not fluent in Japanese.
The story is typical for Katsura: Kenta, a slightly silly and clumsy boy dreams of becoming a super hero. So when the mysterious Aoi falls from the sky, carrying a note-pad that makes everything written on it come true, he decides to live his dream and becomes Wingman. Apart from many humorous situations and romantic entanglements, he also fights criminals and evil enemies from another dimension. The mix is spiced up with many cute girls, another staple of Katsura's.
As this is based on his first manga, before he changed his style, the artwork is more cartoony than Video Girl Ai or DNA^2, but the series is still very likeable.
