Current editor-in-chief of Vogue, preceded by Grace Mirabella.
Wintour was born November 3, 1949 in London. Her father was
Charles Wintour, a former editor of the Evening Standard. When she
was hired as EIC of American Vogue, she had already headed British
Vogue and Home and Garden. She is noted for her support of wearing
fur, her work raising money for AIDS charities, and the widely-held
belief that she is an icy bitch. Her nickname is "Nuclear Wintour".
A former assistant of hers, Lauren Weisberger, wrote "The Devil
Wears Prada", a story of a poor executive assistant who is tortured
by her cruel and exacting boss: the Editor-in-Chief of a fashion
magazine known as "Runway". It was made into a lovely film starring
Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway. At the premier, Wintour wore
Prada.
