Dogs are generally
loyal,
loving creatures. My dogs border on
goofy. But I can't help thinking that buried somewhere in there is a
mental system evolved to
hunt,
scavenge, and
kill.

But I've also noticed that they are wired in a particular way. If my dog is following a scent, and comes to a split in the trail, he will sniff left. If he doesn't smell anything he immediately goes down the right-hand path (without a verifying sniff). This seems to be a form of logical abduction that is somehow built-in.
I was wondering if anyone else had other obervations that:
