These are probably my 7 best nodes; if you only have time to read a few things I've written, read these:

re: typo alerts. For my part, when I send typo alerts on E2, I am not at all concerned whether anything is done about them. I have clocked a lot of hours doing volunteer proofreading and send the alerts here simply as a courtesy. It also shows that I've read the wu carefully, which could be taken as a compliment :)

You can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink. You might try salt in its oats...sometimes that works.

"Our spirits fill our world and make it exciting and meaningful. All of importance that can be said can be said about kachina, or by them. We are never lonely; we are never alone. Everything is a passage and a flow to a new place or to an old place seen anew"

Simulacron3 overheard in catbox 9/30/06

"I found this place on the web," I say. "It's full of writers. Good ones. They're all over the place like some kind of weird headless death cult of writer apostles. I've written some things for them and they're NICE to me. They tell me if they love stuff or hate it. They threaten to castrate me when I insult the bands they like. I feel like I'm home. These people, they think like me. It's called Everything2. They have these rules. Dole out points. It makes them write better, they think. They really try to make each other happy with their writing. They can't stop. They write and write because their genes make them do it. - iceowl

Family tree I do not know Sarah Kelly. But her exhibit caught my eye profoundly. A series of 25 charcoal drawings, with multiple attachments-candy wrappers, Polaroids, etc. All of the pieces had one common feature-a piece of a branch from a tree nailed to the border. They all had a short description, as well, written in pencil- ("this was Bill, I knew him before he left to go to school in England. I only kissed him once-he smelled like Beer and confidence"). Ms.Kelly said all of the branches came from the same Oak tree. The one in her back yard where she grew up (Grosse Pointe). She saved several branches when her parents sold the house. The tree was gone now, she wrote, since the new owner didn't want to be reminded about the hanging. Ms. Kelly did not go into detail on that point. - etouffee

The difference between fiction and reality? Fiction has to make sense.

I know you believe you understand what you think I said but I'm not sure you realize what you heard is not what I meant.

"I made a comment about the three of us being on the same page, and I'm wondering if that was a bonding moment of some sort. Three separate beings coming together over a mutual desire to show ourselves as well as others what we are capable of as a team." - jessicaj (emphasis mine)

08:03 A2S3 It took a while, but I now know for certain that I am (always and ever) at the precise center of the universe.
08:12 A2S3 You are, too, of course.
08:13 A2S3 The universe is such a thing that every point in it is at its exact center, to arbitrary precision.

It was the deeper, truer lesson: That the maker is the one who is part of what he makes.
Orson Scott Card
"The Tales of Alvin Maker"

<undead> thinks up and down votes are not enough! we need truth, beauty, charm and strange votes too!!
