The
Greek goddess of
revenge, or retribution. She was daughter of
Nyx. In addition to being a
personification of the desire for
revenge, Nemesis had a sense of
equilibrium - she acted to make sure that undeserved
evil was punished, as well as undeserved
good. Her name means, "She who
metes out."
She also acted as assistant to Zeus, in his role as God of Law and Order.
She was also mother of Helene of Troy, by Zeus.
