The
title of an
ACLU white paper written to point out the
dangers of
censorware and
mandatory content labeling schemes like
PICS. The title, of course, is based on
Ray Bradbury's
Fahrenheit 451, in which the
printed word is
censored.
Even though it's a few years old, the points are still valid. Mandatory content rating (which can never be objective) backed by force of law are a vehicle for big corporations to take control of the Internet while eliminating all those pesky independant publishers and consumers who speak against them.
