'Steaming' is also a term for a particular type of robbery where a mob of (usually) young men run through a crowd (it happened at this year's Notting Hill Carnival in London) or a train carriage, stealing everything they can grab from whoever's there, and relying on a combination of surprise, forward momentum and sheer numbers to avoid retaliation or resistance.
