In the
fantasy novels of
Rick Cook, a
module of the
WIZ-DOS magic compiler system that
sequenced operations and reported
resource conflicts between the three
processors that made up the system. Originally written by
Karl Dershowitz, the module incorporated a
debugging tool that appeared as three small
monkeys, representing the three
processors. Normally, when things were running smoothly, the monkeys would appear in the classic "hear-no-see-no-speak-no-evil" pose; however, when
conflicts turned up in the handling of the
request queue, the monkeys would start poking each other's
eyes out, bopping each other on the
head, and tweaking each other's
noses. (To get an idea of what
that looked like, examine the
acronym for this
module carefully.)
