we had shared nothing rare (event)

5 years later,  maybe 10

we had perspective,  we had distance

Odd how things look in past tense 

from a different point of view

What was once amazing and breathtaking -life changing

now viewed as just 6 months

No matter how great those feelings were,

the capital letter Connection 

those Bold font waves of emotion 

They did not last, they faded away

as our parents told us they would

Having older people tell you what would happen

felt like someone ruining a movie for you

Love and loss are lessons we need to learn on our own

grasping how fragile life is cannot be taken from a textbook

or a well meaning adult
