The Ankole Watsui are used both as
dairy and
beef cattle, although their primary utitlity to
farmers and
ranchers is in
cross-breeding them with other
cows to yeild specific improvements in
climate-tolerance,
butter-fat levels in
milk, and
fat levels in
beef.
According to the Ankole Watusi International Registry, the breed's history can be traced back some 6,000 years to central Africa, which accounts for its ability to thrive in a wide range of temperatures.
The horns of the breed are truly astounding, and though it is somewhat odd to find cattle "regal" (as do many of the Ankole Watsui's fans), they are a very impressive sight. They are evidently called "the cattle of kings."
This node is part of Tem42's list of cattle breeds, entitled, simply, cattle.
