Ernest William Hornung
British author, journalist and amateur cricketer (1866-1921) and the creator of
Raffles, the gentleman
thief. In 1893 he married the sister of
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
The two men seem to have enjoyed each others company immensely, seeing
as they both wrote crime stories with quite great degree of
success. Hornung's most famous character is
Raffles, the gentleman masterthief who shares many characteristics
with Doyle's
Sherlock Holmes.
The Raffles stories first appeared in The Strand, but were later
collected into
Hornung also wrote
