The men's
basketball coach at
Duke University in
Durham, North Carolina.
Coach K played ball at
West Point and was a
protege of
Bobby Knight at
Indiana. He coached for five years at West Point before coming to Duke in 1980. After building his program though excellent
recruiting, Coach K led the
Blue Devils to two consecutive
national championships, in 1991 and 1992, and is by far one of the most
successful and well-loved coaches in men's
college basketball in the last 20 years.
Coach K is a
great guy, all around. He buys pizza for the
tenters in
K-ville during the 48 hours before
the Carolina game. He's famous for his pre-game speeches to students, in which he inevitably discusses his
Polish heritage. Known to
curse like a sailor. His name is pronounced /sha-shef-ski/.
